Colombia moves towards Sustainable Infrastructure

In a global context where sustainability has become a fundamental pillar for the development of cities and communities, Colombia has made a significant stride toward building a more sustainable and resilient future. The Colombia GBC  has announced the introduction of Envision certification, an international standard that evaluates and certifies the comprehensive sustainability of infrastructure projects.

What is Envision Certification?

Envision is a certification and framework developed by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI). This certification has positioned itself as a key tool for evaluating not only the environmental impact of infrastructure projects but also their contribution to the social and economic well-being of communities, their resilience to climate change, and their resource efficiency. Envision offers a comprehensive and holistic assessment of projects, considering aspects such as quality of life, leadership, planning, mobility, and resource management.

With Two Registered Projects, Envision Promises to Transform the overview in the Country

Since its introduction in Colombia, Envision certification has generated considerable interest among infrastructure project developers. In less than three months, two high-impact projects have already been registered to begin the certification process. These projects, which have not yet been disclosed in detail, represent a significant step forward in the adoption of sustainable practices in the country.

The incorporation of Envision into the certification landscape in Colombia not only reinforces the country’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, but also sets a new quality standard in infrastructure. It provides developers with a clear and structured guide to integrating sustainable practices from the early stages of planning and design.

Furthermore, the Colombia GBC is actively working to offer training and resources that facilitate the implementation of Envision in infrastructure projects across the country. Currently, there are more than 20 professionals accredited as Envision SP, who are essential experts required for the certification process of projects.

The arrival of Envision in Colombia marks an important milestone in the evolution of the infrastructure sector. With the leadership of the Colombia GBC and the enthusiasm of project developers, the country is well on its way to becoming a regional leader in sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
